Our Team

Sam and Denise UrickSam and Denise Urick are a husband and wife business and technology team with over 20 years experience. They understand the challenges facing businesses of all sizes and have a long history of building and implementing effective systems for major corporations as well as for smaller businesses. These include Wells Fargo, American Express, Bank of America, 3Com, Farmers Insurance, government departments, international non-profit organizations, and more.

Their work involves project design, execution, and team building - always using the best technology in the industry, and always in the most economical and innovative way possible. Sam and Denise believe in building long-term working relationships of trust. They do not believe the statement “it is just business”. They believe that we all have the opportunity to treat each other ethically. Their outlook forms the heart of our philosophy at DSTech Solutions today.


Daniel StrainDaniel Strain has over sixteen years experience in advertising and promotions with companies including AT&T/Southwestern Bell. He has written and designed advertising, run promotional campaigns, and served as a marketing consultant for literally thousands of different client businesses of all sizes and sectors. He has worked as Marketing Manager for California's largest flooring distributor, and as Director of Marketing for an international medical organization. Daniel is an expert in utilizing social media to build communities and increase brand loyalty. He is also versed in both internet marketing as well as traditional marketing channels.

Why We Made PlutoPort

While working for an international non-profit organization that provided medical care for people in developing nations, Sam, Denise, and Daniel became familiar with the challenges facing very small staff operations. Similar experiences before this informed them as well. After forming DSTech Solutions, we found ourselves in need of certain collaborative and organizational tools, and decided to build our own.

After comparing to what else was available, we found our solutions were ideal for any small business. While there are some similar products out there, it seems some of them are highly complex and elaborate. They offer a huge number of features but many small business people will not need all of these, and yet would have to swim through the complex interface, creating a steep learning curve and inefficiency. Other products in this category have the opposite problem; they don't provide some key functions needed.

So, we decided to make a product that would meet many needs of people working in or running small businesses, but be as simple and easy to use as possible - both in terms of the technical requirements, and the actual workflow once a person is using the product. We call this PlutoPort!
